CH Amalia da Casa de Maio (Mali) | | | | Princess Amalia | Born January 28, 2003 in Providence, Rhode Island in the home of Darlene Devaney and Elliot Washor, where Amalia's mom, Donzela de Viamonte lived (dad was our Manny) and frequently called "La Princessa" by friends and family, Mali is the first purebred female Podengo born in the United States. She is a spirited, happy girl who grew up loving to play and hang out with her best friend, four year old Dylan, a lovely little person. Amalia is named after the great Fado singer of Portugal, Amalia Rodriguez, and is quite entertaining herself.
Amalia was the first Podengo born in the US to become a champion and is the "mom" of the first second generation litter born in the US, three beautiful girls. She is the grandmother of the FIRST third generation Podengo born in America, Porto Novo's Francesca.
Mali's favorite indoor activity is lying on the back of a sofa looking out the window to watch the wildlife meander by. She now lives in coastal Maine with her favorite person Mark, who takes her to work, to friends homes and almost everywhere he goes. Sometimes she even gets to ride in the sidecar of his BMW bike -- in a safety carrier and she even wears doggles and has her own windshield!
Manny, Amalia and our Donzela all have bloodlines of Vale Negro and Lapa do Lobo kennels of Portugal. We love the showiness and attitude of this line and continue to work with it to further develop the breed.
